Would anyone know where to pick up the kind of metal tube that can be positioned, and it holds the shape? Those USB arm lights come to mind. It's hollow stuff, and looks a lot like wire loom, only, metal.. ;-)

Would this be in the plumbing section of lowes, maybe? I admit I haven't looked around, but I was hoping maybe someone knew of particularly nice-looking stuff... shiny...polished maybe...

any hints?

That stuff says it conducts electricity... might want to shy away from that one. lol

Plumbing section might be your best bet but that's just a guess

that would be fine if you put clear shit over it, on 2nd thought dont use it, they have silver somewhere

Point taken. I probably should have read more into it before posting it. =)

It has many names.

Suggested search terms: "metal gooseneck," "microphone tubing," "shower hose"

I know that Home Depot and Parts Express carry some variations of what you describe.

Umm no, quite the other way around...

"The electrical conductivity of the heavy gauge Mylar allows this innovative product to be applied where electrical shielding is required "

translation for you,

The lack of electrical conductivity of this product makes it ideal for electrical shielding

(btw mylar has almost 0 electrical conductivity )

ill stop buttin in now ;-)

Thanks for the keywords... going to run down to Lowes or Home Depot today in search of the pieces.

Yeah, I was in Home Depot recently and saw several styles and sizes of shower hose that might be perfect for your application. Since it's Home Depot, the prices were very reasonable as well.

It would be nice to have the other kind like they used to use in desk lamps and mic stands, but a smaller guage. that stuff will stay bent the way you want it so you could make nice routiong and stuff.

the shower head stuff is nice and all (like orac 3) but is flexible and a bit springy, so it will go where it wants rather than where you want :)

Look for braided metal tubing in the plumbing section, I've got some on my washer for the cold/hot water inlet. It does not keep it shape, but you could try to either work around it or stiffen it. Try getting the cheapest, most low quality 12ga strand wire from the local hardware store- it'll be pretty inflexable. If it's still too flexy, keep trying lower gauge numbers till you hit the spot. Just stuff some of that inside the tubing, hot glue the ends, good to go.

Buy a hunk of BX cable (it is the industrial electrical "wire" used for commercial buildings). Pull out the conductors and voila, you have your metal tubing

You guys are coming with some good solutions, but I don't think any of them will work the way he wants it to.

He's lookign for soemthing that can be bent, and will STAY in that shape...like a bendy straw.

I have tons of that stuff here at work, but it is pre-cut with threaded fittings on each end. It isn't very large diamter, maybe enough to snake through 4 wires and that's it.

The BX tubing is a great idea, but it won't hold it's shaped. Neither will the shower head hose.

PS-RagE and SarverSystems, are you talking about that dull gray "conduit" type tubing? If so, that would take some work to get that to fit most aesthetics, wouldn't you guys think?

Yup, dull, grey, ugly metal. But, I'm sure it could be painted easily and is cheap as [insert some cheap synonym here].
