I am wanting to do a mod of a case with an optical drive that pops up from the top of the computer. About 10years ago IBM was selling a computer with the cdrom and floppy in the base of the monitor and when you pushed on it it poped up so that you could get media into the drives. Does anyone remember these? Does anyone have any clue where to A: find a mechenism that does this, or B: how to go about making one?

Thanks,

Nick

I'll look for it, but I wouldn't ask much, it'd mainly be for shipping, this beastie is heavier than it looks.

thebeephaha, that would be awesome. :D I have no problem with that. When/if you find it let me know what you will need for payment. I am in Tigard OR, 97223 for the shipping quote.

don't get it, what is that thing? Looks like a 5ton paperweight

Seems like an interesting project.. Maybe you could pick up that old IBM and remove the optical drive thing. :)

Thats the idea. I actually dismantled one of those things a few years ago and rom what I remember it will be perfect. I hope it can be torn apart and use a regular optical drive . but if it cant I can always pickup a slim burner and a card reader and put in it.
