Ok... so im just wondering what this is called... when you polish or sand a heatsink down so as to get the best heat transfer possible, the word escapes me at the moment so I cant just search it... :( Either way... is it worth doing this to a new 3000+ venice and a zalman 7000cu (both brand new, yet to be used), or will it give no real difference as neither has been used yet... Also I heard something about using isoproponyul.... (i cant spell worth sh*t, something with high alcohol %) to clean the cpu before putting on thermal greace/paste and placing the HS... Sorry for being such a newb

its called lapping, it is done to get a very flat surface for best thermal transfer
is it worth doing right now ? not yet, first see what your cpu does and what temps you get

isopropyl alchool, thats just pure alc, 70% and up is good IMO

isopropyl alcohol is used for getting thermal paste OFF the cpu once it is on, assuming its too dried out to wipe off.

If you want the best temps possible, remove the IHS from the cpu and lap the bottom of the heatsink.

remove the IHS? whats the IHS?

the metal lid on top of the core, but its not recommended, try your cpu as it is for now and then if the temps are too high you could give lapping a try
