PNY 6800nu problem

So i'm running 3dmark2005 pro and I keep getting restarts only when the Fill Rate test runs. I can run the regular game tests for hours w/no problem. I recently did the RivaTuner unlock for the vertex shaders and pipelines but it's since been reversed and I even uninstalled RivaTuner.

Has anyone else experienced reboots w/3dmark2005? Could I have done damage to my card that can't be reversed by turning off the hacks for the 6800nu? I was under the impression that you couldn't do permanent damage with the above hack.

Help please!

The RT software mod is reversible. After uninstalling you have a stock card again. The problems you are having are from the card or other source. Power supply would be my first guess.

before u say its psu related. i suggest u turn off first the pixel shader then turn off the pipes 1 by 1 to check if its any of those causing the problems. btw are u using the newest RT?

yes i'm using the new year's addition now, i wasn't when i first unlocked the pipelines... i uninstalled the old and installed this new version

i already purchased a replacement PSU (i have a enermax 430 now - 3 yrs old) since I needed a new one anyway in an attempt to dodge the PNY RMA... i can unhook 2-3 HDs and i still get the same result, it seems it just can't take the Fill Rate test after I started messing with rivatuner

are you saying disable the pixel units one by one? and if one of them fixes my problem, does that mean RMA is the only thing i can do?

another update after NeoPower install.....

same problem even w/new PSU, I can prevent the artifacts and the restart by disabling all but the first pixel unit in RT... as you can imagine, this criples my 6800

anyone have any clue what's going on? are my pipelines damaged after the soft mod w/RT?

ok let me get this right? did u do what i said about turning off the pipes 1 by 1 and vertex shader as well. switch it around to see what works and what doesn't. if u find something that doesn't then disable it. if all of ur pipes don't work and only ur shader does then that is that. ur card is not crippled if ur pipes don't work. u bought 12/5 not 16/6. nothing is wrong with ur card if it was faulty pipes that u tried to enable caused this... ur card is not crippled, its fine and its what u bought. sorry u didn't get the unlocks but its basicly 50/50 chance i'd say and u were just on the bad end of the stick  the mod btw is 99.9% harmless and won't dmg anything else... im guessin when u said pipes ur talkin about the ones u tried to enable with RT correct?

ok here's the deal:

I used the NVStrap driver and went to a custom active pixel/vertex unit configuration. Clicked Customize and made sure all the pixel and vertex units were at their default settings. The ones that were hardware masked were disabled like they should be. Then I started disabling the pixel units that were enabled one by one (keep in mind this is w/o any of the extra pixel or vertex units enabled so stock card). I tested w/3dmark2005 Fill Rate tests that would cause my card to display artifacts and restart eventually. I get the same negative results until I disable all the pixel units except the "Pixel unit 0." I'm not even altering any of the vertex unit settings.

I have this exact same problem with my PNY 6800NU card. Only happens in the Single Texturing fill rate test of 3DMark05 Pro. I get corruption, sometimes a BSOD in the nv4_disp.dll, occasionally the test will continue. It doesn't happen under any games, or any other tests, including 3DMark03 or 01SE. My card is running stock clocks and pipelines/vertex shaders.

I've chalked it up to either a driver issue or a BIOS issue and just not run the test. I'm running a quality PSU, and everything else runs perfectly, HL2, Doom3, FarCry, etc. Only other thing I can think of is to e-mail PNY on this one. I asked this question on 3DMark's forums, and got little help, and I tried to find out if other 6800NU owners had the problem, and got mixed replies; some were fine, some got a bit of corruption

interesting, i'm glad there is someone else that's had this problem.... it really makes no sense at all considering all the other tests work fine

I'm not sure, but I don't think I was having this problem before I started playing w/RV to unlock the card. Maybe I just wasn't running those tests before I really started to tweak the thing so I guess it's possible that the problem has been there all along. I'm just hoping there is no permanent damage to the card itself, guess I should register so I can get the 3 yr warranty. I just finished playing Far Cry for about 2 hrs at full resolution and detail.... no BSOD, no lockups, no artifacts, etc. I guess i'll hold off on the RMA.
