Please Help trouble booting from cdrom

Ok well this never happened to me before. I will explain my setup a bit more so theres no confusion. I have both harddrives on my onboard raid controller and my dvd burner and regular cd burner on my primary ide. Now when i boot normally i load into windows, but when i change my first boot device to any of my cd roms it totally skips the cd rom read and goes straight into windows. I've tried switching the HD's to the ide and the cdroms to the raid and same thing. It completely bypasses the cdrom and goes straight to windows. Now when im in windows my cdroms work perfectly. I tried booting from a floppy and when i get into DOS i try to change root and go to one of my hd's and no drives at all can be found. PLEASE HELP!!!

PC specs are as follows-
Processor - P4 Prescott 3.0Ghz
Motherboard - MSI 915P/G Neo2 Platinum
Ram - 1GB DDR2 Crucial 533
Video Card - GeForce 6600 GT PCI-e
Hard Drive(s) - 120GB 7200 WD/160GB 7200 WD
Sound Card - Audigy 2 X-Gamer
 
First of all, this is completely the wrong forum, but I assume it will get moved shortly. Secondly, are you sure you are using a bootable cd? Have you tried other bootable cds?
 
seriously, do you even bother too read? FORUM Help & Feedback, not for you damn computer. theres 20+ forums for everything else :rolleyes:

Yes im sure, im using a XP Pro cd and a XP Corp cd. Both just bypass the setup of the cd and proceed to load windows.
 
I get this error when i try to boot Windows XP Pro - CDBOOT: Cannot boot from cdrom : CODE 4

I googled it and found some info about it and what i found said to update my motherboard BIOS. My old version was 1.0 i since updated it to the latest version which is 1.5 and still nothing.

Also this may sound weird Lol but i have no floppy disc to create a xp boot disc. I need to go out and buy some, but i would much rather fix the problem with the cdrom. In the motherboard manual it doesnt say anything about special installation for cdroms etc.
 
Maybe you should try just one CD on a dedicated cable (nothing on the slave connector).

Also, if you are using CS to select master/slave you could switch to the standard method of specifying master/slave.

One more tip: make sure the master is connected to the far connector on the IDE cable and the slave is connected to the middle connector of the IDE cable. Also make sure the correct end is plugged into the motherboard (the end with the longest distance to the middle connector).
