Hope this is the right place for this.. don't know where else to put it

Ok I setup a new computer this past weekend...

antec sonata (just stock fan didn't add another, and i use the psu that came with it)
aopen ak86-L
amd xp 3000+ newcastle retail
1 gb corsair pc3200 ram
80gb seacastle 7200rpm
prolink gf 6800gt
windows xp

anyways the problem is that it seems to be... laggy.. i can't really explain it... like in cs:source it lags up a little bit especially after playing for a bit.. one time i was playing and then my fps just dropped to a steady 20-30.. other examples are like sumtimes when i'm on my desktop and i right click the properties thing doesn't come up.. programs take kind of long to load.. sumtimes when i reboot or shutdown it doesn't turn off completely, it just stops with a blank desktop.. and earlier the computer just turned off by itself.. cpu idles at around 42-45 ish.. i can imagine that it's probably 50 something when under load.. i look at the "gpu core temp" in the geforce properties and it's usually 50 something.. with ambient being just about 40.. can somebody suggest what could be wrong? maybe the psu? not enough cooling? or built it wrong? please help... thanks in advance

i installed 71.89 drivers for the gf... got windows sp2.. critical updates.. and now it's even worse.. internet dies really quick now.. after awhile it just says "windows cannot open search page".. slowwww loading of pages, they don't even fully load actually... then it just gives me the page where it says "windows cannot open the page"... ahh i'm so confused... i even defragged, searched for sys errors... what can I do now? :(

I've yet to try that, since I just installed Windows a few days ago, but I guess I'm just going to have to do it. Any other suggestions?

Some of the things you describe sound like it could be overheating issues. How is the cooling on your mobo chipset? How hot is your ram, and is it overclocked any? Maybe you could also have some kind of program running in the background messing all kinds of sh1t up. I would check these things, and then try a re-install of windows.

I have pinpointed the problem!

You are using the PSU that came with your case.

That is a big no-no. I have never heard of a PSU that was included with a case being good, fair, or excellent.

Remember kids it does not matter how many Watts your crap power supply has:
it is still crap.

What matters is: (In order of importance)

1.The brand of the PSU (The two most trusted names are Antec and Enermax)
2.The Amp rating on the 12V rail (You gots to have at least 20Amps more is better)
3.The Wattage of the PSU (Single video card I suggest 430-450Watt, SLI 600Watt)

Even though your case is from Antec that does not mean the PSU is an Antec as well.
Please check it to make sure.
