hi guys, i have a P4 551 and i am planning on upgrading to either a D940 or D945.

My question is which is better gaming wise? I know the difference is the VT but does that account for gaming? Also, is it worth it to upgrade my P4 551? Would I notice a huge difference? I also do a lot of DVD burning while browsing the net and may some dvd encoding.

What motherboard do you have? Core 2 Duo might be an option for you with a BIOS update if it is new enough. A Core 2 Duo would be best for all the applications you've mentioned.
 
I have a intel 955XE (BTX)

I'm pretty sure i can only go Pentium D..

Yeah that is true.

You bought a BTX board? Weird. I didn't think anyone bought those things.
