I was just curious as I've only really had amd, how the bios options/overclocking work for Core 2 duo/intel

I know there is a cpu frequency - multiply by multiplier for cpu speed
To overclock I know you have to raise the fsb, but then that raises the speed for the memory. Say for example you raise the fsb to like 350 x 9 for 3150, does the ram run at ddr2-700 or can you triple it for ddr2-1050 or does it automatically run at ddr2-800 if thats the ram you have? I've seen screenshots of people run 350fsb and then have ddr2-1050 running for their memory. It looks like the fsb was tripled for the ram? How does the fsb and memory etc work for the core2duo/intel?

total memory speed = fsb x dram ratio x 2 (for ddr2)

so if you had a cpu clock of 350, and a ram ratio of 1:1.2 then it would by 350 x 1.2 x 2 = 840mhz. Thats why a 400mhz fsb is like the holy grail us Core 2 owners are shooting for - 400 x 1 (1:1) x 2 = 800mhz...ddr800 ram which is the standard for most motherboards..plus 400 x 8 is 3.2ghz. 350 is all i can manage with stock cooling though on my e6400.

I too an just learning and THIS helped me out quite a bit.

It is allot different that AMD, but youwill get the hang of it. Just keep asking questions... I did :p

Thats a cool little post. It explains a bit as I have been having trouble going past 376FSB on my DQ6. I was accusing the memory but I was sticking with a 1:1 divider, gonna play around with the other dividers and see what I can come up with.....

Ya, if you are an AMD OC'er it is hard to get past the rules that applied, most of them are completely different on the Intel platform.

Try the 1333 Strap and the 667 divider. Yeilding good results for me so far.
