Playstation 3 not showing my laptop

I've got my PS3 connected to my home network but it is only showing my pc. I cannot find my laptop on there, nor when I look at my network connections on my laptop, I'm not seeing the PS3. Should I be able to see every computer connected to my network on my PS3?

No. Only computers sharing media with WMP or an equivelent service on windows/mac/linux.

Ahhh, no wonder. No media center on my laptop, plus I'm running Vista on my pc.
EDIT: wait, I have media player on my laptop. I could just use those instructions you provided and that would work, right?

Yep just set the PS3 up in the media player as an allowed device.
