Planning a Plexiglass Case

Hello Case Modding Forum!

So i've finally decided to build my first computer case from scratch. I'm planning on building a small media-center case to fit a micro-ATX board and some parts i've got sitting around.

The plan is to build the case out of Plexiglass or Lexan since starting from scratch with metal would require some intensive coating and / or painting and I just don't have the equipment for that. I've been doing some initial reading and making a few drawings in Inventor and I had a few questions before I continued the planning phase:

  • Question 1: My first question has to do with electrical grounding. Since Plexiglass and Lexan are not really conductive materials, do I face any additional dangers from building a computer case solely out of these materials? If so are there things I can do to remedy this problem like line the case with metal or something?
  • Question 2: As far as computer cases are concerned, is there really any difference between Plexiglass and Lexan? It would be nice to be able to get different colors but other than that do the material properties make a difference?
  • Question 3: I'm busy reading work-logs but if anyone has built a case like this before and has any advice, i'd greatly appreciate it.
