I remember a few years ago (when the Geforce 3 roamed the earth) and nVidia said that they will soon (within the next couple years) will have Toy Story quality graphics done in real time. Pixar was supposedly pissed that nVidia said that and said that it will be at least 15-20 years before we see Toy Story 1 quality visuals in real time. Well after seeing the XNA demos (supposedly running on R420) I have to say that they surpass the visuals in Toy Story 2 and approach the beauty of Monsters Inc. Even tho the XNA demo's weren't running on nVidia hardware the NV40 should run at least comparably to the R420. I just wanna say that nVidia was right and Pixar was wrong about Toy Story quality visuals in real time. I just think they were being pissy little bitches because a $400 R420 and NV40 can do the same visuals as their $100,000,000 workstation. Oh, well nVidia told you so nya-nya!!!!!!!!!!

You know I downloaded those demos and I didnt find them to be that spectacular as some are saying. In anycase still find dawn to be the most impressice demo I have seen.;)

i don't think we've reached Toy Story 1 graphics yet

you realize they use some increadible lighting and shadow systems right, with extremely high poly counts, and not one jaggy line

I think that a highly modified version of the doom3 engine might be able to hit that mark, but it would need to have a robust shader system (as compared to the reletively simple one in doom3) and it would need some monster hardware that doesn't exist yet to push the high polys and aa needed.

Yeah, compare the horribly deformed humans in the TS movies to the model used in the XNA demo. Yeah, the Pixar one looks more realistic, in ANOTHER DIMENSION!!!!!

I don't think Pixar was going for the "realisitic human" look in Toy Story

i think a better comparison would be the final fantasy movie. Compare the characters in that with the characters in farcry or hl2.

the humans are unrealistic on purpose. they don't wan't them to look real.

look at the movie Final Fantasy the Spirits Within

and then look at the games we are playing today

the 3d movie industry is way ahead

but also they don't have to render in real time

we got a long ways to go till we get to the movie final fantasy in real time

Thats not the point.
