Hi,

I'm looking for opinions on monitors that would be great for photo editing and graphics design. I did a lot of research and narrowed it down to these. Are these good choices? What would you choose? Maybe there's something better then what I have listed? Advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

HP DreamColor LP2480zx

Nec MultiSync LCD3090W-BK-SV

Lenovo ThinkVision L220x -- Secondary monitor for non graphics work. Small dot pitch.

EIZO - CG221

No prob. Go to their main sites, they have the ones the comes with the shroud and calibration equipment/software.

Why are your sizes all over the place. The only 30" is a NEC, then there's 24 and 22. That's a heck of a range of product - how can you simply ask "which is best?"

Pick a size/resolution, and then go from there.

I love my NEC 2490, and I know that the 2490 and 2690 have been updated to WUXi2 versions (lacking the A-TW polarizer but having some other improvements).

You also need to keep in mind that a top-notch TRUE professional grade monitor is about a heck of a lot more than whether the panel is IPS, S-IPS, H-IPS, eH-IPS, M-PVA etc... There's a lot that goes into a professional tool than just the panel. Calibration, luminance control, hardware LUT resolution, uniformity control through panel blocking etc....

Personally, I think hardware LUT is a must for a serious media editor. Furthermore, I've found that a uniformity system like NEC's ColorComp (called "Uniformity" in WUXi2 versions) is also a huge point for me. These technologies even out any brightness or tint variations across the panel to give a perfect white/grey editing background and perfect uniformity across the display. This is a HUGE factor for a perfect, professional look.

Planar may have a good panel, but it's simply not going to have these features. The NEC 90-series and EIZO lineups will typically have these features but, again, your shortlist is not even close to an apples-to-apples comparison between vendors. The Eizo CG243 would be a better comparison to the NEC 2490WUXi2, for instance.

Size doesn't matter to me. I'm only concerned about image quality and a small dot pitch. The 30" monitors have a smaller dot pitch then the 24" monitors. It's tricky finding IPS monitors in any size so I have limited choices. The Lenovo was in the list becuase of it's small dot pitch. It's the only monitor with that resolution I could find. I did find an EIZO monitor that I like but it's 20K...

and I wasn't asking which was the best. Just if they are any good for photo editing. There's complaints with all LCDS I looked at so it's hard to decide.
