I bought the amd phII980
and swiftech polaris 120 cooler with corsair 1333 ram
I realize its a high clocked cpu but could I either or raise the multiplier and or the fsb to @203 for a mild overclock without raising vcore or htt and nb?:eek:
 
Increase multiplier by 1 to 3.9 ghz. If you're feeling a bit adventurous, raise it by 1.5 or 2 to 4 or 4.1ghz.

Increase NB to 2400 mhz. Manually set HT link to 2000 mhz.

That's pretty much guaranteed overclock without increasing vcore or anything else. Don't adjust the FSB. The NB frequency increase really helps your computer feel more responsive.

I'm on similar situation with 965be C3, All I did was in BIOS put vcore at 1.45v an multiplier to 19 memory at 1600(stock speed), it is 14h PRIME95 stable 51c.

I'm worried changing HT and NB speeds as I feel this might damage the motherboard, no?

I tried 19.5*200 with 1.45v but the PC wery fast rebooted from PRIME95, maybe next step is put vcore at 1.48 and Increase NB to 2400 mhz. Manually set HT link to 2000 mhz.
 
NB is on the processor itself. No, it will not damage the motherboard, and it will make your computer feel more responsive. I had a 965, and I can attest to the fact that this is true. Most AM3 processors can run at 2400 mhz on the NB with stock voltage.

HT stock speed is 2000 mhz for the AM3 Phenom II. Since there's already enough bandwidth at 2000 mhz, that's why I said manually put it at 2000 mhz. HT speed tends to change to whatever the NB speed is unless you manually set it.

So I will do following in BIOS: keep vcore at 1.45v, keep memory 1600, put HT 2000, put NB 2400.

To make sure it's stable 3.8ghz I will run IBT for 30min + 2-5h of PRIME95.
