Currently I'm running an overclocked 5000+ Black as can be seen in my sig. Would like to upgrade to a Phenom II 940. I get temps of about 18C right now. CPU is the only thing on the loop.

Would the TDX CPU block be sufficient to cool a Phenom II?
 
Well, it would be the same motherboard, just a CPU upgrade. I am a little more worried about 65W (IIRC) vs 125W of power/heat to dissipate.
 
Blocks don't vary so much in that it'd be a HUGE difference, maybe 5-10C, though I'm probably over-estimating, Arcy would probably know better. It'd be dependent on your rad/fan setup IMO which would make the bigger difference.
 
Yes a TDX would do the job just fine I believe, but if you have an extra $50 the EK Supreme LT would work wonders, or the HeatKiller Rev.3 ;)
TDX's are abit out dated now, but they are still ok, unless of course you mean the TDX-MC which is a good block, not the best, but very good :)
 
Since it is just the CPU on the rad with 2x120mm fans in push-pull config, my existing OC'd x2 is running at room temps. Even under full load it runs about 21C tops. I'm kinda cheap right now given the economy and don't really want to spend the extra to upgrade the water block if it is not needed.

I plan to OC the Phenom II but I don't go for absolute max OC... always happy to get some extra MHz though. I need the thing to be ultimately stable as the computer is the basis of my income and I can't have any failures. But that means stuff like this is a write-off :D

Sounds like it is worth a try. I'm already on the latest f7 bios that gives PII compatibility and things are running nicely. Thanks, gents.
 
its possible hes got screwed up temp sensors like mine(x2 be-2350 which is the same brisbane core as the 5000+ and same stepping).. idle = 4C 1core loaded =10C 2 cores loaded = 15C even though its actually 24C idle 35C 1 core loaded 51C fully loaded (mind you this is all on air not water cooling..)
 
Computer is in my basement with excellent airflow and watercooled as it says. It is much cooler down here than the rest of the house and stays the same temp year round. Wifey doesn't like it but it's fine by me. Put it this way... there is a wine cellar on the other side of the wall from me that is only a couple degrees cooler than right here where I sit.

It's currently 17C where I sit. Was just going by what CoreTemp tells me... 18-19C idle, 21-23C loaded up. Something tells me I'm about to get schooled though :D

FWIW, you can get the basic idea from my original build log which I posted on the H: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1084584. Internals are upgraded, and there is another 120mm in the back, but the WC setup remains the same.
