Peter Gabriel has announced plans for a new music service that will offer free music downloads that come with ten second ads embedded in them. After a preset length of time, or the song has been listened to three or four times, the user would be able to download an ad-free version.

A short advertisement will precede each track downloaded. Purdham said that after about four weeks – “when the song had been listened to three, four or five times” – We7’s users would be able to download an ad-free version. Those who don’t want to wait will have the option of buying tracks without the advertisements.

Let it run the way it was meant to. I'm going to be supporting this. Anything to make the RIAA have a coniption fit.

if the ad is something that we are interested, that would be awesome

I'd support this, especially if they have all kinds of songs and not just the popular stuff.

As much as I am against more advertisements, this is another option. More options = better, atleast for me.

No problem, just dump the tracks into iTunes and play the song looped with the speakers muted over night. Then get your ad-free version. ;)

I said this long ago if a radio station can air music and we can freely record it why cant we do the same but in the digital realm and Peter might have found a very effective/simple way of doing this..

Peter Gabriel needs to reunite with Genesis. Phil Collins already said he would be up for it.

I'm ok with ads like these then we get the full version :). Hope they allow us to burn and use the mp3 thats free of ads to do anything we want with it.

Sounds like a winner to me. Don't avoid the ads on this one, just suck it up for a week or so to keep it running!
