Performance not what it should be?

System (i'll spare the details, just the basics):

A64 2800+/1.8 Newcastle CG @ 2250 (250HTT, x4 HT) - stock voltage, not going higher until I toss the stock heatsink
Chaintech VNF3-250 nForce3 - old 7/29 bios (reports of low performance with newer versions)
768mb (3x256mb) PC3200 @ 204 7-3-3-2.5 T2
XFX 6600GT AGP
(raptor, 120gb wd, 550w antec, etc - the usual)

The performance i'm getting in sandra shows the CPU to be slightly faster than a 3200+ barton, and in 3dmark01 (very cpu intensive) i'm pulling 16.2k - Is this right? Seems rather low... I upgraded from a barton @ 2400mhz (12x200) and I can't tell any difference, even in the couple games i've tried. Is my clock speed just too low or am I missing something here?

And yes the system is prime and 3d stable, primed 11 hours at this setting and ran a couple games and a few loops of 3dmark01

it seems ok with the 6600gt. I may be way out in left field with this one but I thought I read somewhere, maybe on [H], that some of the A64 boards freaked when there are 3 memory modules installed and it slowed things down. I could be wrong but why not try removing one stick and run 512 and see what happens.
