Performance not what it should be?

What up, guys. Im a long time veiwer, but this is my first time posting, mostly cause i had a super slow machine for the longest. Well, ive just built myself a new machine, heres the specs:

MSI KT6V mb
Athlon XP 3000+ cpu
512mb DDR 2700 ram
BFG 6800GT OC video card

I havent overclocked anything (the card came overclocked, of course), and all my drivers are up to date i think. So i download aquamark3 and the new 3dmark test, only to see myself get way lower results than others who have nearly the same specs. My aquamark score was around 32000, and my 3dmark was aroun 7000. I compared my aquamark scores to others around my specs, and i saw a machine with nearly exact same specs and he had 20000 more points than me! Could there be something slowing everything down?

that shitty pc2700 ddr ram might have something to do with it

It would have SOMEthign to do with it.....but it has nothing to do with a 3DMark03 score of 7,000 with that card.

-Tetsuo-, are you ABSOLUTELY 100% sure you have AA/AF/vsync all disabled.....or at least set to "Application Preference".....cus that's one major thing a LOT of people often overlook when they think their card is "bunk" early on.

ya i turned AA and AF all the way down, Vsync is off as well

Try reversing whatever your Fastwrite setting is in your display properties.....a LOT of people find they have to "switch it up" to fix a lot of issues. I know that If I "reverse" my Fastwrite setting performance takes a HUGE nosedive......check it out.

Should fastwrites always be on or off? I thought off.. correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

hmm where would i do that at. i dont have the slightest idea cause i had the crappiest machine for the longest. nad also, if my 2700 ram is bad what should i be getting?

I don't think your RAM is a bottleneck, since Athlon XP 3000+ suppose to run at 333MHZ Bus speed. Make sure you update all of your device drivers. You should have bought NF2 chipset motherboard for your Athlon XP. I think they are a better match. Via KT600 are not dual channel like NF2. But that shouldn't give you such low score in 3dMark. Do you have anything running on the background?

Nah, i made sure everything was closed that i didnt need to run windows. How do i adjust fastwrites?

Hey i just checked out the nVidia tools thing, and it says:
Bus: PCIx0

now i may be mistaken, but im pretty sure i plugged my card into the agp slot...

OK i got the newest chipset drivers and my scores jumped up big time. Up to 47000 aquamark and 10000 3d mark.

Maybe check bios to see if the video is set to AGP instead of PCI???? maybe... mabye not. Just a suggestion.
Not even sure if video would run if selected PCI, but just suggesting.

Also, what's up with fastwrites? Not trying to take over your thread.. just curious.

AFAIK the AGP port is just a modified PCI slot, hence why it is considered the 0 slot on your mb. ;) Not too sure on that though. :/

i have to turn off fastwrites on my card or every game crashes after five mins of gameplay, and it all started when i got a new crappy aopen mobo and all my drivers are up to date.

That is good to hear, I know how much difference chipset drivers can really make.....its fun forgetting to install them at all, then Installing your display drivers and trying to benchmark/game.....good times. :p
