Perc 5i Drive Failed

Hey, First Post here, long time lurker.

Need to replace one of my drives on my Perc5i as it has failed. It's a 1.5tb drive which are hard to source now-a-days so i'll probably just throw a 2tb in there.

My question is how do I locate which drive is which within my system? If I unplug the wrong drive then my raid5 will be compromised and go down, ya?

I just want to make sure I swap the correct drive and don't create more issues.

I plan on backing up my data before hand but if you can suggest an easy way to ID the drives that would be a big help.

Also, whats the best app to test transfer speeds and what should I expect from my perc5i in terms of numbers? I just want to make sure everything is working flawlessly when it's back up and running. I have a BBU so I use "write back" or whatever the option is called (away from my system for a week so I can't confirm)

thanks!

if it's actually failed and no longer spinning the temperature of the drive should be quite different than the ones still in active use.

smart... I'll use that as my jumping off point. But just to clarify the only other way to check is to unplug/disable one drive at a time and then label accordingly?

Also am I correct in my assumption that if another drive goes offline it will screw up my RAID5? Or would I be able to temporarily take another drive offline and re-instate it with no loss of data?

thanks.

if you lose another drive it'll result in data loss with a raid 5

If there is no real discernible difference in temperature between the drives you can unplug one at a time and boot into the Perc utility during post and do the drive validation that way one at a time. It's a little cumbersome but safe
