Just a couple of quick general questions. 1) For overclocking, amd or pentium 4 northwood/prescott? 2) Is there a motherboard with the capabilities of the abit IC7MAX3 but runs amd?

Im doing a lot of planning here on building a new system from scratch from the motherboard, to modding the case, to a water cooling system. Im just having a lot of issues deciding between using the IC7-MAX3 with runs a pentium 4 (Northwood? Prescott?) or finding another board that has similar functions and running a athlon64. What is important to me is the overclocking funtions of the video, ram, and processor and also how well games are played on the system. I see so much out there that my eyes are starting to gloss over. I know the difference between different aspects but when they all start to look so similar i cant decide. I have posted before about possible systems but in this post im being more specific about im going to use and whats important, any help and or opinions are appreciated especially if you can state why this is the better case, thank you all.
 
A64 is much better in games. It doesn't overclock all that well, but it isn't bad.

Prescott sucks, don't get it. Runs too hot, and doesn't perform as well as the northwood. The northwood chips are clock locked, but are still good overclockers as long as you get some decent ram (PC4000 or higher). Don't even think about running async ram, cause that just kills performance.

The Athlon XP mobiles (unlocked processors) are great overclockers if that's all you care about.

The great thing about the A64 is that you can get lower speed ram (PC3200 or PC3500) and it'll still overclock very well.

As for the video card, a 9800pro will do you nicely.
 
For AMD boards take a look at the DFI lanparty boards, they are on top as of now for ocing with AMD.
 
I am very happy with my p4 2.4b (northwood).

It runs like a rock at 3.06ghz, and I only have 512 pc2700 mushkin RAM.

I do really like the A64 though, and it leaves the future open for some incredible stuff..
