On the bottom of my PDA display, there are a few spots that are a little darker than the rest. Below is a diagram, N=Normal D=Darker.

Bottom of screen -> NNNNNNNNDNNNNNNNDNNNNNDNNNNN

Is this normal?
 
screen may be scratched, or you may have pressed too hard there, upsetting those pixels...

i recommend using those pda screen protectors that you lay over the screen and change every month or so. They are cheap and wonderful, my 14 month old hp pocket pc still has a pristine display with nary a scratch or streak
 
Is it a "stagelight" effect (in that the dark spaces are evenly spaced, and only visible when viewed at certain angles?) If so, that's pretty typical for the transflective displays generally used in PDAs, and nothing to worry about.

And if you do use screen protectors, I'd recommend the WriteShields (sold at PocketPCTechs.com.) They're a bit more expensive (something on the order of $30 for 3 of them) and a bit of a pain to install, but they last forever (I've had my Axim X5 for a year and a half, and I'm still on the second one) and make for a much nicer writing surface than the screen itself generally provides.
