PCI Express version 2.1

I have noticed that some of the newer 5870 cards have PCI-E v 2.1 instead of 2.0. Anyone know details and if current motherboards even support 2.1?
 
It's basically PCIe 3.0 minus the speed enhancement. As for support, yes, PCIe is forward and backward compatible with each version, with limitations of the earlier version.
