Does Anyone know when the PCI Express version of the 6800gt is going to come out. i have seen it in a lot of the reviews of the new intel motherboards. i am now leaning towards going with a new intel cpus and boards. if its gonna be a few months i think i might pass on it.

Thanks

why? 875P is still the best chipset for intel p4C and p4Es. Unless you wait to buy the latest and be their labrat for testing their first generation PCI-E chipset and DDR2. Did you see the reviews say how fragile those pins are on the mobo?

Some dude posted in the "what is in your Doom box" thread that said he had one with his Intel 925x motherboard. He didn't give any details on how he got it though..

I have three of them here now. Most of them will do 420MHz with just running coolbits and he autoclock. Have beat on them pretty well, they seem to be stable. When you can buy them is anyone's guess

i had debated maybe waiting a few months and making the pci jump this year instead of early next.

if fall/winter i bought a 6800gt pci e and then added another 6800gt pcie 6 months down the road that would be a limited and costly upgrade path:

assuming the most im wililng to shell out would be for 1 400$ 6800gt 6 months later 1 $250 6800gt. then next year i will have 2 6800gt and certainly not be anxious to drop them for a single next gen card. the alternative would be to buy 2x400$ r500 or nv50 which i just dont care that much about graphics power

-the next gen nv50 and r500 will be dx10 gaming goodness. 9.0c will be a bottleneck in a fast system.
-nv50 and r500 should at least both be full and true native pci e. designed ground up for the serial nature protocals.
-gddr3 will probably get another huge speed bump even if core speeds dont increase too much.
-much more hdtv integration into the next gen
-i expect a dual SLI setup to last a year and half or longer instead of just the 400$ which is good for a year then i sell for 200$

these were my conclusions that led me to buy a 6800gt last month knowing i will be upgrading to pcie next gen cards this time next year then 6 months later when the price drops ill a second next gen card for a beutiful system without blowing my wad on a meteocre setup. a few minutes of forward planning can save lots of money, time, and trouble.

All the stuff you guys said about waiting untill the 2nd gen chipset is a real good idea. i dont really feel like being a lab rat for there new stuff. ill prob go with an a64 setup then when the 2nd gen comes out, maybe ill go with it then. i really appreciate all the input from everyone.

Thanks again
