I just built a pc and when I press the power button my monitor makes no sound (as it does when it comes on). I dont think the problem is that pc wont boot its just the monitor doesnt seem to want to come on no matter what I do. I have tried my spare 17" monitor ( I dont really know why but I thought it was worth a try) and I also tried another dvi to vga converter. I dont have a LCD monitor that I can try.

The new graphics card is a MSI 6800GT and it doesnt have a blue vga connection at the back, just two DVI connectors so im using the supplied converter. The full specs...

3800+ Athlon 64
MSI NX6800GT-T2D256E
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200XL Platinum TwinX (2x512MB)
And the monitor is a 19" CRT Philips Brilliance.

You tried both DVI ports right?

Reset BIOS, unplug all cards and cables from the mobo except for: 1x stick of RAM, 1x GPU, PSU, and power switch. Make sure that RAM and vid card are seated properly. Then try it. If that doesnt work try a diff PSU, RAM, and GPU, then get back to us.
 
Yes i tried both ports and with two different monitors and with two different dvi-vga adaptors. If I could get a signal from my monitor to know that its working then I could go on and try doing what you suggest but as there is no noise what so ever coming from the crt when I press the power switch then thats the first problem I have to deal with.. until I get bios beeps and am able to actually get in to the bios.

Forget about the monitor, the reason it is not making a noise is because your machine will not POST. To troubleshoot that, please follow my steps above.
 
I reseated everything cleared the cmos and then changed the pic express wire to the one that came with my psu instead of the one that came with my vid card (im desperate now). Still the same.
