pc --> tv connection probs...need help

I am moving and decided to consolidate my electronics. i hooked up my custom pc, names and specs of parts i am unable to list, but i've encountered a problem. both screens are working and i have color on my computer monitor, however my tv is black and white and no sound is coming through. i have them connected by svid and i am using a hook that connects the headphone jack to the monitor hook ups in the back of the TV. is there a piece of this puzzle i'm missing?? please help. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
