Has anyone else noticed, or is it just me thinking that PC Power has gone down?

It seems like since they've been taken over by OCZ, their quality has gone down.

I've read a lot of DOA reviews on Newegg, which only started after OCZ bought them out. Their packaging isn't as good; there's nothing outstanding about the TC 860 I have. The ripple is high (.650V on the 12v; others aren't exceptional either), considering that the Turbo-cool series was supposed to be the absolute best. Rail reg was just within spec (although that's good.)

Then, they use different caps in products shipped than shown in their pics on their website.

The only 2 things that are really all that great about my TC 860 are the beefy-ass 14AWG cord, and the fact that it doesn't show any defects.

I recommend getting the Enermax Revo, b/c PC P&C has really kind of fallen, IMO, since the OCZ takeover.

Any thoughts? I just don't think they're so exceptional anymore. Although no company is these days.

I have to respectfully disagree. I've been using thier products for over 10 years, long before the (financial) aquisition by OCZ.

I currently have 3 of their units, a 750, 1KW and the newest 1200watt PSU. Quality is exceptional as always, and I have not had a single issue with any product. I've sold a few of their PSU's also (on this forum) and have not heard of any of my buyers having a problem.

I also find it curious that you state they use "different caps"...considering that Win-Tact has ALWAYS manufactured the actual PSU's as per PC Power's patented design specs.

I would recommend that if someone wants one of the best PSU's, with the lowest failure rate in the industry, that they highly CONSIDER PC Power & Cooling. Otherwise, just make your own choice.

No they haven't. The 860 is a Win-tact WP612F15 and so on. Ever since Win-tact decided to join the world of useful websites you can see the units available for ODM/OEM on their site. The Silencer's are Seasonic (in particular the x900 for the Silencer 750) and before that they were SPI designs.

Ok I stand corrected. My 750 here I thought was a Win-Tact unit, it's quite old. 5 or 6 years. I know on the high end units they are still Win-Tact, correct?

Well... Personally I think PCP&C has many equal competitors these days. They were king of the hill back in the days when everybody else were putting out plenty of pieces of garbage, but today the standards have risen considerably.

They have some engineers, but as I said above they do not design them from the ground up. They never really have. The thing is Win-tact PS2 power supplies were almost exclusively distributed through PC Power & Cooling so it was kind of easy to keep them hidden away. For instance the 860 is a WP612F15. Now the Silencer series can be bought from Seasonic easy enough if you are in Europe where it is sold as the x900. Etc, so on and so forth. They have such good quality because they use good OEM/ODM's. Win-tact puts out good products for all their designs not just the stuff they design for PC Power & Cooling, if they went with Deer well their product would be crap because try as they might Deer is not a company that builds good quality or has good production methods. There is nothing magical about what PC Power & Cooling does, there is nothing magical about what Corsair does, etc. There are very few real OEM/ODM's out there and almost every "brand" you see takes a bone stock unit from those OEM/ODM's and tweaks it slightly. Some have more input, but all the OEM/ODM's are in Asia these days and there are very few actual designs floating around in the retail marketplace. Give it a bit of time and I would bet you are going to start seeing some of those Win-tact designed units popping up under other brands as the Win-tact website seems to have changed significantly recently and they are offering units such as the WP615F11 now.
