I've tried to install Windows XP and 2000 and they both lockup early in the install.
I've removed all unecessary components and have disabled almost everything in cmos.
AMD Athlon 1.4
Abit NF7
Crucial pc2100 2x256, 512
Maxtor 7200rpm 80gb
Allied 450w
Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs
ATI Radeon 9800 pro

Run Memtest86 to checkout your memory for errors.
Thats one reason for Windozes to lockup durring install.

Luck........ :D

Sounds like a power supply problem but the 18A on the +12v rail should be sufficient....see if you can get your hands on another powersupply, a quality power supply too. Antec, Enermax....
