The easiest motherboard to use to meet your requirements for legacy devices is the Intel BOXDQ67OWB3 Socket 1155 Intel Q67 Micro ATX. Unfortunately it is listed as "Special Order" from Canada Computers. It is currently stocked by both Amazon.ca and Newegg.ca. Alternative motherboard will require the purchase of additional add on cards to achieve the same results adding unnecessary cost and complexity to your system.

Has that old Lotus DOS application actually been tested against Windows 7, x64, installed on NTFS, running in a command window, and on modern hardware? I'm not being a smartass, but rather intrigued by this implementation.

Notes:
- The onboard GPU within the i3-2120 should be more than enough for DOSBox. Hell, the i3-2120 should be more than enough for this business machine.
- I stuck with one 4GB stick of RAM for simplicity's sake. If you want 8GB, it'll cost you about $18 extra.
- The motherboard comes with at least two SATA cables, but I didn't see any floppy cable within the packaging. I picked a short cable for the case, but is it safe to assume that you already have a spare?
- You may need a floppy power adapter for the PSU. The cheapest one I could find was a Bytecc adapter that turns a SATA connection into a 4-pin Molex and a floppy connection.

edit: added the 1TB Seagate option. probably worth the $10. If this isnt for you personally you could ditch the sexy Lian LI for something cheaper. Same for the i5.

If this is really only for things like MS Word and Excel, even an i3 seems like overkill if you're trying to get it to be as cheap as possible.
 
Have you considered a prebuilt system? Seems your demands aren't all that high, therefore a prebuilt system should more than meet your needs.
 
Yah, a cheap Dell deal (or dell outlet deal) should do the job just fine for your budget. Business work is actually what dells are made for, hehe. For the parallel port requirement, you can either go for an optiplex series, or get a USB to parallel adapter from monoprice for rather cheap (although I'm not sure how much they charge to ship to canada).
 
None of the quotes contained a Parallel Printer ADAPTER. Are those even available?
 
The Intel motherboard we both used included a native parallel port. Without that he would need either a USB- Parallel cable or a PCI Add on card. Considering how crappy USB can be with older apps/printers I would opt for a card solution , but at that point the card cost suggests you may as well get the Intel MB with the native port which I recommended.

The card or cable Prav mentioned should work fine, too. I used a USB to Parallel adapter for a few years with my HP laserjet 1100, and it worked fine. I couldn't use the cable all-in-one solution because HP used mini centronics for that laserjet. :mad: and while I did have parallel controller PCI card, the cable adapter was easier to deal with. Also, some boards still come with parallel port controllers, just no port, and you can buy the port separately off ebay or surplus computer parts stores.

Oh, and FDD are still available on optiplex.
