1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Build specifically for my parents (so basic internet use)
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
4-500 ideally (can go upwards of 600 if need be)
3) Where do you live?
CA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
EVERYTHING
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
NONE
6) Will you be overclocking?
No
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
My parents have a 40 LCD tv (i believe it has couple of HDMI ports i forget haha)
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
As long as it can support a peppy CPU (none of that ATOM junk sry :D )
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Yes... I have a Windows 7 key from a family key dedicated to this build

Its pretty much a straight forward build... The only thing is that I want the machine to be pretty peppy to be able to handle HD video (Youtube) and light gaming (Facebook stuff and maybe later steam type games)

The reason I ask is because I did a build before http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1034144012&postcount=26 and that was just a budget all purpose LIGHT gaming rig (currently on ati 4830 card)....
Im thinking I could build similar along the lines of the build i got suggestions on...

main concerns:
-- they want a small form factor case because it is going to be hooked up to the tv (so wireless keyboard and mouse is a must as well as probably a Mini ITX or cube type shape so it wont be too overwhelming to sit next to the tv haha) i know space will be an issue so im not fixed on setting my limits to just a MINI ITx case haha
-- graphics card wise do i need it or would onboard graphics be sufficient? im worried that if i go that route anything intensive like even Youtube HD vids or HULU would be too intensive on the CPU
-- wireless N adapter would be a must also since all comps on our network are running N
-- of course this may become a primary machine to upload video and photos from their digital cameras and things of that nature (again i dnt knoe if this is gonna be a matter of $ on spending on the CPU and possibly GPU haha)

Here's some components i was looking :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811190110
case wise something like this at around 40 bucks would be pretty ideal for the setup i want my parents to have....

thanks guys!

How about a media center/HTPC case instead of mini-ITX?
$50 - Rosewill Black / Silver SECC Steel FE-H010 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case
$60 - nMEDIAPC Black Aluminum / Acrylic / Steel HTPC 5000B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

A non-Atom mini-ITX will cost a bit more than a mATX AMD build. I'd suggest sticking with mATX and AMD since you have such a low budget.

$100 - Asus M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX
$74 - AMD Athlon II X3 425 Rana 2.7GHz Socket AM3
$94 - G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1600 F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
$55 - Corsair CMPSU-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2 80+ PSU ($15 MIR)
$55 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200RPM SATA300 16MB Buffer
$24 - Asus DVD±R DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X
$60 - Case, one of the two listed above
============
$462 + tax and shipping - any MIRs

If you want mini-ITX, I wouldn't trust the PSU in that AthenaTech case. I'd go for the Silverstone SG05 since it comes with an 80 plus certified PSU:

$105 - Silverstone Sugo SG05-B Black SECC / Plastic Mini-ITX Desktop Computer Case SFX 300W 80Plus PSU
$130 - Zotac GF9300-G-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Mini ITX
$73 - Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5400 Wolfdale 2.7GHz LGA 775
$94 - G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1600 F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
$55 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200RPM SATA300 16MB Buffer
$40 - Lite-On Slim 8X DVD Burner Black SATA Model DS-8A3S-01
============
$497 + tax and shipping - any MIRs

For any real gaming, you'll want a discrete vidcard. ;)
