PC as a receiver?

It will work better than X-Fi I think because if you don't have the front drive, you can do a pin trick with Audigy2 to enable DD/DTS decoding. You will need one of this.

I would like to use my PC as a reciever also, does it HAVE TO be by digital? (like SPDIF or optical?) Can we just use a 2.5mm jack ro RCA r/w cable and somehow configure the software?

i have a 5.1 speakers w/ RCA jack. . i dont have a digital speaker i only have analog speakers.

Thats what most people have, either RCA home theatre speakers, or computer speakers with a 2.5mm jack.

Im wondering if its possible to do audio IN without that digital bracket

Not quite sure what you're asking here. A digital signal is required to send true surround sound information i.e. 6 discrete channels. However, if you are doing dolby digital/DTS decoding with your soundcard, i supposed you could send the signals to amplifiers. However, I think a modestly priced receiver would be much less ghetto and serve you better. You can pick some nice pioneers and harman kardons off ebay for $200-$300. I would suggest the H/K AVR340/345 or the Pioneer VSX-1015TX.

Normally as a receiver, the device should be able to decode a DD/DTS signal into 6-channel analogue audio. If you have an analogue source and an analogue speaker, you don't have to connect it to your sound card, just connect it directly to the speaker or buy a switcher if you have multiple sources. If you want to add effects to the sound then connect the source to the sound card but normally most sound card didn't have a multi channels analogue input so you can only take a stereo source and simulate it to surround with pro logic or cmss3d or whatever.

X-Fi Platinum because it can decode DD/DTS from spdif input.

Doesn't it decode as stereo?
Previous audigy platinum have always decoded as stereo.

Is the X-Fi different for sure?

The only thing that makes a Receiver different than your PC is the inclusion of an FM/AM tuner.
So if you want to make your PC into a receiver, add in an FM/AM tuner card.

That's probably not what you are really asking, but that is the answer to the question you have asked.

what are you trying to hook up to your PC?

dvd player, digital cable, vcr, 5.1 speakers,

personally, I would just use an actual receiver and run all my audio to it. Hook the PC, DVD, Cable, and VCR up to it and be done.

there are enough inputs on the Audigy 2 ZS for all of your sources, Digital for the DVD, Line in for the Cable, and Aux for the VCR, but I am not sure if Aux is a connector only on the card itself inside the PC or if there is an Aux jack on the back of the Audigy card.
