OK, finally started getting A3's at stock on my i7, but they take about 8 hours to finish. I figure I could get my 10 units in much faster if I OC even just a little, just turning on Turbo should shave around an hour off (little under actually).

Is there a safe way to stop folding (EVGA VM 1.1) and shut down, OC, then start back up?
 
I suspend my VM and then shut down. The only issue might be that your OC isn't stable and you lose the work when you start it back up.
 
I suspend my VMs all the time even when changing frequency. However, I make sure to copy the entire VM to a separate folder in case something goes wrong like the OC is unstable.
 
Go to the top of VM player and select the VM pull down. Go to power then select suspend. Simple as that. When you go to restart just open VM player and select the suspended session.
 
I'll second what DooKey said. Suspending VMWare Player worked for me when I was trying different overclocks.
