Actually, I'm pretty much tapped out again. Most likely no new machines till next year so now its just maintaining what I've got and trying to find the odd box with more than 512 MB of RAM so I can setup QMD's on 'em.
If only I could find a way to convince people to leave their PC's on overnight and weekends....

I've found that if a computer is quiet enough and turns off the monitor after 15 minutes, people tend to leave it on. It doesn't bother them, and it's faster to get it going than rebooting it.

Most of the people around here turn them off because they think its "safer" which is true (you can't hack an non-powered box) but if thats the best security you've got, there are bigger problems to worry about.

Just one other minor update - last night I found 5 more P4 2.8Ghz's that must have escaped my earlier passes. Fear not, as they are borged now!

how many do you have what kind of enviroment are they in?
i totally understand the don't shut your computer off i have borged a couple of docs offices and thier comps are almost off every night or at least on weekend oh well

Mostly, I don't. Just set 'em up using the console version (or even the graphical) and let 'em go. They're kinda scattered all over the countryside so even if I did find a problem there isn't much I could do about it. Every time I'm in an office I just do some "preventative maintenance" and check to make sure the clients still running and such.
BTW, I feel so special to have a thread just about me....
