I just quickly put this together today. I am going to get 2 of the harddrives (nto sure if 160 or 200) and set them up in a raid 1 (mirrored). This is for a file server for 4 computers but it probably wont be accessed by more than one person at a time. It will be for backing up pictures, movies, downloads, etc...

Any comments are welcome, I know the mobo has onboard nic but someone told me that it wont perform as well as an intel in a pci slot.

And before anyone asks i know i need a case and power supply. I am going to get a cheap case and i am not sure how big of a power supply i need for this (comments on this are helpful as well).
 
Thats way overkill for a fileserver only accessed by 4 persons, and only one at a time.

An old 500mhz with 128/256 mb would be just fine for that.

For a psu get a good one that can stand being on 24/7, and can provide enough juice for the harddrives.
You might wanna add more and more harddrives later on and those take alot of wattage.

Maxtor's around 12-15 watt each, Seagate's as much as 30-40 watt each.
 
I need raid 1 to mirror the drives but they dont make raid on older motherboards and i think a controller card would be too expensive.

I have yet to see a good onboard raid solution. Either get a dedicated card or don't bother at all.
