Partitions or Seperate HDD's?

I'm using a 60GB OCZ as my boot drive, and have a 1TB green HDD as my extra (music, games, etc. )

Let's say if I wanted seperate hard drives (locations) for different files. FOR EXAMPLE.

- Games HDD
- Music HDD
- Installation HDD
- Pictures HDD

Would you guys recommend partitioning the drive I already have into 3-4 partitions or get 3-4 seperate (120-250GB) drives?

I've read and some say partition will make the hdd slower, some say faster, some say no effect. Can anyone give me there cents? Those who have had experience in my situation.
 
What are you trying to gain by using partitions rather than folders? Accessing four separate disks at the same time is going to be faster than accessing four partitions on one disk at the same time so there's significant speed benefits to using discrete disks...
 
This is what folders are for. Partitioning is done for reasons other than organizing things.

Multiple disks are helpful for moving data back and forth between, as one will be reading sequentially while the other is writing, but not really useful for just storage and low speed retrieval which it sounds like you want. You're not likely to be copying mass amounts of data from your pictures drive to your music drive for example, so putting those on different drives is really quite pointless.

You might want a seperate drive for you games, especially since your storage drive is a green, but otherwise you make best use of disk space, case space, and electricity with one big storage drive, in one big partition.

Choosing in advance how much space to dedicate to each of your 4 tasks is unnecessary and gains you nothing. Copying among partitions on the same drive is slow due to loads of seeking between distant parts of the disk to read and write, and you avoid this need entirely by just keeping everything in one filesystem.
 
Thanks, I will just keep the green as my storage, and maybe get a raptor hdd for my games.
