painting hsf

Probably depend on the kind of paint/spray paint. It's like you putting on a sweater on a hot day.

Yah, it would basically destroy the cooling abilities. The only exception would to have it professionally anodized. But even then, your going to loose some cooling.

It all depends on how you paint it.

Painting the top of the very top fin won't do anything bad for your temperatures. Infact I did this myself on my AC freezer 7.

Also, you can paint the sides of each of the fins (carefully! very small sprays!!!) without any negative repercussions...

What will hurt you? Painting any of the fins (other than the very top one) inside the fin stack.

I"m pretty sure that you could. BUT it's all depends on the type of paint that you uses. Definitly have to be spray paint. Example Example Example Example

There are many other color heatsinks out there if you googled. If you have a spare heatsink, give it a try. First test the temp without the painted coating and one with the painted coating. I'm curious to know the results.

could just rig up an electrochemical rig and do your own gold plating.
