P4 Overclock System.

Hey Everybody.
First of all, i would say that im a new user, so i will start with introducing myself. Im a 14 years old boy from Denmark. I like to sit in front of my PC and look after casemod and overclock my computer =). Here's my first question in this forum :):

If a buy a 3.0 ghz Northwood-C CPU and a Coolermaster Hyper6 heatsink-cooler with 2 good 80mm coolers on. Would i be able to overclock the CPU to 3.8 - 4 ghz with that cooler and my 512 MB PC4000 Kingston HyperX ram.?!
If i set it to something like this setup:
Multiplier: 15 (Default mulplier)
FSB: 260.

That would be 3900 mhz.
Would i be able to do that or.?!

You would probley need watercooling or higher to reach that. I would expect you to reach more around 3.6-7Ghz. At those higher overlocks you are going to be held back because your Vcore will need to be high inorder to get those clocks. Higher Vcore = More heat.

With better cooling, yes. With this setup, I think you should be carefull not to overheat.

BTW, I'm 14 years old and from DK too
 
To push beyond 3.6GHz you'll likely need more voltage. Which adds alot of heat to the CPU and shortens the life of a Pentium 4 if not killing it entirely. Watercooling or phase change cooling will help out in these areas. I've never heard of anyone having an air cooled systems past 3.7GHz stable.
 
I'm also from Denmark

My 3.0 does@3.6 no prob on air cooling and can boot into win at 3.75 at stock volt, but isn't stable during load. But it depends on your luck with the cpu. My old. 2.6 couldn't do over 3.0 no matter what.

Then i should not expect to overclock my new P4 over 3.6 ghz.?!
One of my friends 3.0 ghz Northwood-C P4 P4, that is cooled by a Hyper6 and 2 quality papst coolers. His CPU is 27 - 28 degree celcius idle, and 35 full load.

That is very good cooling for NO money :)
 
The only way to find out is by OC'ing it. But your temp also depends on your board Abit boards are known to show up to 10-15C to high temps. And other boards show a to low temp. But if your puter is stable and the HS isn't to hot then you should be OK.

But you can't get any garenties about a OC, but try and let us know. And the temps your friend reports sounds very good so the heat shouldn't be holding you back.
