I think that review sites should focus on min fps rather than avg. fps.

ie. nobody cares that a 9600SE can get a max framerate of 70fps in Halo when walking down an empty corridor; the only thing that's important is the min fps when your in battles. The avg framerate skews the accuracy of results by including both the framerates from heavy battles as well as the framerates from the empty corridors. [H]ardOCP is definitely on the right track by including min fps in their reviews.

I don't think his system would behave like a fx57, more like a fx55! the 57 is far superior to anything intel got now, oc'ing or not i think.

Agreed. I think everyone also needs to shed the impression that AMD's are worse than Intel in everything other than gaming.

Anand puts up a good review comparing a wide variety of AMD and Intel processors in a very wide range of tasks (audio, video, etc. etc.)

Do you KNOW for a FACT that an FX-57 would best a 4.4Ghz P4? I don't think that anyone is saying the FX-57 is a bad processor, but what the hell does that have to do with this thread, and how exactly was your post supposed to be helpful to anyone?

Actually yes. There was a test done between an FX55 and a Pentium 4 at 5GHz. The P4 must be clocked to around 5GHz+ to match the FX55. It almost takes twice the clock frequency to best the A64's in games alone.

I am not saying that a Pentium 4@4.4GHz won't be competetive. I don't think you'd notice the difference between a P4@4GHz and a A64 FX-57 with a 7800GTX. With a high end video card, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in actual games. For the benchmark whores though, I think you'll find the P4's lose by such a huge margin, that anything OTHER than HUGE clock speed increases for the P4 won't get the P4 over the A64's performance.
