P180 v P150

the case doesnt make any noise, the components do!

but equipped the same, i believe the sound would be similar.
 
any proof of this? "hands down" lends me to believe you've either got a link to testing, or have done testing yourself. I'm curious as to some of the exact tests done between the 2.
 
I've used both, and with stock setups, the P180 is quietest while providing the best cooling.

Since the 150 was purpose built to be quiet, I figured it might have an advantage, apparently not.

Can I expect a dramatic difference over something like a random enlight case that is like 6 years old (lol I know).

Both the P150 and P180 were built specifically for quietness; They're in the same series. I think you'll like the compartment-based design of the P180, and it will cool very very well. I love mine.
 
Yah i knew they were both built for "performance" but it just seemed like the p150 was overbuilt for performance, moreso than the p180.

Again, apparently not :)

Maybe I'll buy one soon. For those that have them, do you use a front-bay fan controller to control the fans, or just the little switches included with the fans, or what?
 
180. It's more for silence. It has the layered aluminum/plastic/steel door that weighs a ton (doesn't vibrate), the seperate zone for the psu (cpu doesn't heat up the psu) seperate spot for the hard drives, mounted on soft grommets to absorb vibration. on most boards, a big fanless tower can work, if you use the two upper fans, or even one of them. It has a 120 in the back, perfect spot for the thermalright HR-01 + duct. All 120's, and the door helps with killing noise.

Oh, I didn't mean it that way. I meant, "I'd get the P180 hands down." Sorry for the confusion.

As far as which is one quieter, I believe the P180 is... You might want to read some reviews on www.silentpcreview.com and read up on their forums (VERY informative).

The hard drive suspension on the P150 is a bit better for silence, but it can easily be incoporated in the P180 if you're willing to drill a few holes and buy some elastic. The P180 holds more stuff, and uses only 120 mm fans whiles the 150 uses a couple of 92 mm up front.

Just read up on their reviews and you'll see.

I personally love my P180 (although I did not at first...it grows on you!), but I would get the P150 over any Lian Li in a similar price range.
 
it all depends on how many fans you are going to use.

at all stock the p150 is quieter because it has two less fans.

but when you add the 90mm fans in the front that you will want to add, it may be louder, since the p180 uses all 120mm.
 
The thing is, no one would put the same setup in the 150 and 180. You could undervolt the 180 and get the same temps as the 150. So with the sampe temps, the 180 would be much quieter. If everything was the same though, I think the 150 would be quieter.
 
i doubt there is much of a difference. probably similar. the p150 does have hard drive suspension which is superior to rubber grommets. i have the p180...nothing good or bad to say about it (besides the flimsy door). i wish i had gotten the p150 for the ease of putting the damn thing together, so i don't have to buy extension cables, for not having a door, suspended hard drives. careful with the p150 psu. supposedly it STILL sucks.
 
I have my moms P180 with all four fans running as low as i can get em, the thing is DEAD silent. When she had a maxtor hard drive all you could hear was the drive reading or writing after i replaced it with a western digital i cant even tell if the computer is on or not.
 
i have the p180 and even with my extra 120mm case fans i hear very little sound it also keeps my components very cool :D
 
Just read the SPCR review, and it sounds like they REALLY liked the case. I think the biggest thing for you might be asthetics: Do you want a case with a door, or one without? Personally there would be no contest for me, as I despise case doors. I would choose the P150 in a heartbeat.

I don't like doors either, but the p180 just seems SO much better I'll just get it and deal with the door. The door probably helps with quietness anyway

Anybody know anything about p190? somebody mentioned that it's been announced or something, but I haven't been able to find much info at all.
 
yeah, i dont really care for doors but when i first used it i changed my mind, theres no shitty, half-assed job here. the door works fine. plus i like it because it allows you to buy disk drives in any color because they are not visable. Im very happy with this case :D :D
