P180 Questions

I have a few questions about the Antec P180.

Is this piece able to be removed without any detrimental effects?

How heavy is the case? If I, every so often, wanted to take it to a friend's house, would it it be fairly easy? I'm not talking every day, maybe once a month. And would a window on the side be a very hard task?

Is this case easier than the Lian Li V1000 for cable management and cooling? How are the stock fans in the P180 as compared to the V1000.

And, of course, how spacious is it really? Pictures probably don't do any justice.

Thanks,

Alex

Yes you can remove 4 screws off the back to remove that part. Yes I think its heavy, nothing like a Lian-Li. Cable management is so-so. I think the Stock fans are great, nice and quiet with a 3-way switch, for hi-med-low settings. Its nice I like it, If you do it right you can make your system totally quiet with the p180...

yes, it can be easily removed and many people seem to find that video card duct not worth the extra fan...not sure how heavy it is compared to a lian-li but its pretty heavy compared to my super lanboy, but then, thats comparing a midtower desktop case to a minitower LAN case :p as for cable management, it can be done. it may not be the best thing in the world, but u can find out how to do it (i did it for a friend and didnt route anything behind the panel/under the mobo). As for the fans...they arent the best things ever but theyre ok. the comp i built for a friend (3200+ venice//bfg 6800gt//asus premium) has the top exhaust on low and rear exhaust on medium. He idles at about 36C but he has this huge hutch about 1/2 inch away from the top exhaust which pretty much craps it out. Also, if you do decide to use the top exhaust, people have had more success switching it to an intake.

I don't use the VGA cooler in my P180 because with my video card a 25 mm thick fan is too thick and I've been too slackardly to order a 15 mm fan over the 'net.

So I just removed the entire thing. Added an extra 120 mm fan in front of the first drive bay and it works like a champ. Fairly quite and the systems stays pretty darn cool.

That case is heavy as hell though. I mean for any kind of case it is heavy. I can't imagin how much heavier it would be once your equipment is actually in it.

That would defeat the low-noise properties of the side panel. It's no ordinary side panel.

Yes, indeed removing it has a positive effect in many/most builds.

It is no lightweight. Once you've put in a bunch of components, it is downright heavy. Not recommended for a rig that is going to be moved.

Isn't very hard, but isn't very smart, either. If you want to bling bling, you should look elsewhere. The window goes against the entire design goal of the case.

Debateable, I suppose. I believe the tricool fans in the P180 to be better.

It isn't spacious at all, none of the split chamber cases are. Instead of one wide open space to wire, you end up with three areas(top, bottom rear, bottom front), each with a small amount of space left over for cable routing.
