Hey everyone, I've been kind of regretting buying the case I have (NZXT Nemesis Elite) I sort of like it, but I've read that it doesn't offer the cooling performance it sounds like it showed. At first when I bought the case I bought it because of the looks, I really didn't know much about the actual architecture inside the case, and now I'm trying to see if I can sell it and get a P160 or P180. I want to get an opinion on what you guys think the case is best for air flow/performance/cooling and looks as well. I think I'm kind of leaning towards the P160 because it has the side window and I really want that, and its also a bit cheaper (I've seen them for $80-$90). The P180 though is really nice, and lacks the window, but it looks like a wonderful case for performance and cooling, but the price tag also makes it kind of expensive, as well as the lack of a window. What would you guys recommend the P160 or P180? or do you guys have any other cases that you recommend thats in the price range of <$150. I was looking at Lian-Li but those are really expensive and I'm not too big on the looks of the case as well.

Nobody's done any kind of tests yet, but I'd be fairly sure the P180 is going to cool a bit better, but as far as CPU temps, I doubt the difference is more a few degrees.

It's also going to be a lot quieter. If you want a case with lights and other crap like that though, the P160 is the only one you'll get that with.

I myself am planning on getting the P180.

Your gonna have pluses and minues for each case so you'll have to weigh each one with what you want outa the case and decide yourselfl

ANTEC P160

p1602kk.jpg

Advantages:

1. Aluminum, very light and easy to tote around
2. Addable window for "bling bling"
3. More stylish
4. Good stock cooling
5. Decently priced
6. Roomy
7. Front Temp, audio, firewire and USB panel
8. Blue lit front intake area
9. Removable MB tray.

Disadvanges

1. Aluminum is a lighter metal and results in more resonating thus more noise. *Proven time and time again, aluminum MAKES MORE NOISE then steel cases*
2. More flimsy, easily scratched and dented
3, More plasticky, fake front chrome, easily damaged.

Antec P180

Advantages

1. Awesome cooling capabilities with 4x 120mm fan mounts
2. Built in dust filters for easy cleaning
3. Sealed chamber for PSU and HDD"s to reduce heat pollution
4. 3 panel thick case sidewalls and top to reduce noise output
5. Sealed front area panel for reduced noised
6. Silicon HDD, door and PSU mounts for noise reduction
7. Sealable PSU/ Main mobo area to prevent heat ouput
8. Very quiet capable.

Disadvantages

1. Tri layer results in VERY heavy case, not a LAN party case
2. More expensive due to new release and design
3. Somewhat PITA cabling managment with dual chamber design
4. No removable MB tray.
5. No window option, VERY BAD idea to cut side panel to make one

what do you plan on putting in the case? What are you cooling requirements?

#5: my p160 is quite. doesnt make a sound UNTIL i turn it on. Use quiet fans and its not loud. Mine isn't.

#6: Had mine for about 15 months. No scratches dents and its been carried from place to place.

#7: The front bezel area is the only plastic part on i (accept for maybe the knobs on the side door). I've taken my front off so many times baby jesus came down and cried on my shoulder. Never had a crack, chip or break. Take your time when you work with your computer case.

Both cases do have there advantage and disadvantages. Having not used a p180 I cannot tell you if it is better than the p160 however the case does need to fit your needs. If you dont plan on moving the case then the p180 would probably make a good fit. However if you do want to have a window and have `pretty` lights or what not you can either cut the p180 or just get the p160.

I only have 2 things against the p160.
1: water cooling with anything bigger than a single 120mm rad isnt an easy task to accomplish ( Wasn't planning on water cooling when I bought the case so I'll get over it )

2: The side window. Would have been nice if it was just a flat piece of plexi without those 3 funky shapes in the window. I could replace it but the edges of the side panel that are towards the window are recessed inwards. So it would look funny if I did replace it.

Happy Case Hunting!

umm, unless I'm reading that horribly wrong, the overwhelming majority of cases/computers don't make a sound until you turn them on.........

When my computer is off, it makes this horrible screeching noise followed by a subtle moan. Then I turn it on and it's ok, so I totally know where he's coming from.
