overkill power supplies ?

hi, i currently have the following rig

i5-3570k overclocked to 4.2
corsair h60 (old) cooler
asus p8z77-i deluxe mini-itx
samsung green 2x4gb memory
evga gtx 780 sc acx (overclocked)
sandisk ultra 2 256gb ssd
samsung 850 evo 120gb ssd

all this is powered by a cheap 550watt OCZ psu i bought from pcworld (80 bronze i guess)

it gets quite hot when i game for an extended time period so i think it may be time to upgrade to a better psu

i really wanted a Platinum certified psu and have seen the following

Seasonic Platinum 660W Modular
Corsair HX750i 750W Modular
SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W Fully Modular
Antec High Current Pro 750W

which are all roughly going for a similar price

i understand my system is probably consuming no more than 450watts, and the 660watt Seasonic is probably the one to go for, but given the similar price of the other more powerful ones, are they the better buys??

i understand the question of efficiency at a given load is a factor

i will no be SLi-ing as i have a mini itx system.. the most i would do would be to possibly buy the R9 295x2.. would the Seasonic 660 handle that?

If you had asked me a couple of months ago, I would have told you those are waaay overkill. BUT...

Very, very few sites test for PSU noise through the whole load range. The problem with lower wattage PSUs is that most of them will ramp the fan up at higher loads. This can make the PSU the loudest component by far. So, either buy a properly sized PSU that you know for sure is quiet, or go overkill to lessen the possibility of it getting loud. [if you care about noise, that is]
 
HardOCP give the 850W version of the Antec a passing grade but no silver or gold, so I'd probably pass on that one, particularly with the other 3 top caliber choices you have available.

The Corsair doesn't spin its fan until load hits 300W.
The SuperFlower doesn't spin until load hits 40% (so 400W)
The Seasonic doesn't spin up until 30% or so. Also, this official graph of fan speeds.

Since it's a miniITX build, dimensions might be important. Taking these from their official spec pages:
Superflower: 200mm(L) x 150mm(W) x 86mm(H)
Corsair: 150mm x 86mm x 180mm
Seasonic: L 160 x W 150 x H 86

You should check whether your case allows for a 200mm long PSU.
 
Just looked at reviews of all 3.

The SuperFlower unit looks to have the least ripple which is very good.

Any of them would be fine though as they all seem to be very good power supplies.
 
I've had the Seasonic 660 platinum for about 2 years now with a draw of about 100W when in 2D and it's dead silent with solid rails.
Course I got it at a great deal with rebate, I think I paid about $80 in total so it was hard to pass up.
 
I have a big brother of the Seasonic 660.
Unless you load it quite heavily, it's whisper quiet.
 
You can never go wrong with a Seasonic.

A 295X2 is a 500W TDP card (double that of the GTX 780) and has specific power requirements. You're going to want an 850W PSU minimimum if you plan on going with one of those. If you're going to upgrade in the future a better choice would be the 980 Ti for a SFF system at the same price point. That way you'll be able to use the same PSU, as it has the same TDP as the GTX 780.
 
Seasonic 850 or 1050 would be ideal. I've been running a seasonic X1050 for a hair over 3 years with no problems with a 780 2x SLI and a 3930k @ 4.4 GHz under water, 8 DIMMs, 4 disks, 2 ssd's.
 
I hear the Seasonic S12G-750 is a very good unit for it's size, but is unfortunately not modular. The G-750 is also very good.

IMHO, I'd go for the extra capacity (over a 650W unit)...;)
