OK, about a week ago i upgraded my PC got rid of my 2.8 and got a 3.4C Northwood. well as soon as i got it i started overclocking, i got up to 3.8 on stock cooling, and i started messing with drives and such, i changed my drives from IDE to SATA, so now i have 2 HD's connected to SATA and 4 ROMS connected to IDE. after doing this i am not able to OC at all! running at 3.4 the pc boots perfectly, as soon as i change to user defined and start upping frequency then reboot, it starts to go through startup process, then says disk failure please insert system disk and press enter, err whatever. change it back to 3.4 and it boots fine again. so basically as soon as i change to user defined it cannot detect hard drives. i am running rig in my sig.

i'm not familiar with o'/c'ing pentuim but ...... do you have the dividers set right ?
when you up your fsb you need to make sure that the pci bus is still running @ 33mhz
if your accidently oc'ing the pci bus speed that could be your problem ?

well that worked, thank you very much. but the damn thing isnt stable at anything over 3.6GHz. which is pathetic. anything over 3.6 and it boots windows then auto-restarts. im using stock cooling, but jeeze i would think i should be able to run at atleast 3.8 stable... any input on this?

I can't overclock my 3.2E over 3.58 without my system crashing durring Doom 3 or Sisoft Sandra CPU burn-in. I think I may have to change my divider to 80/40 to go further, but for now I am still testing with the divider set to "auto".

After my 2.4c that hit 3.1 without problem and after hearing about 3.2e's hitting 3.8-3.9 I am a little disspointed. :(

try upping the vcore a notch

I agree. My Prescott is very power hungry. I've had it as high as 3.9g but had to bump it up to 1.6125v to get there. Never could get it stable at 3.9 and I think it's because I didn't want to give it any more voltage. I can run stable at 3.75g but have it toned down to 3.6g just for my own piece of mind. You should be able to hit 3.8-3.9g without too many problems. Be prepared for the heat though. These Prescott's get HOT when OC'd. Good luck!!

well after a day of running at 3.6, THATS not even stable. this is just pathetic, im running at stock speed, i was thinking about getting some water cooling, but if i cant even get a 200MHz OC on air i doubt water is gonna do much

sata lock, do it.

I've had similar problems, but on a P4C800-E Deluxe (BIOS 1016). Months ago, I was running at 3.1GHz on my P4C 2.4GHz with a 5:4 ratio & the RAM overclocked just a little.

I Then bought a SATA HD (Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB) and had a hell of a time installing it. I ended up changing all the BIOS options back to default and eventually got the HD to work.

But I haven't been able to overclock since. Changing the ratio makes it not post, as will changing the FSB over 10MHz or so. The only hardware change was the SATA drive. Is there a SATA lock on this motherboard/BIOS? I can not find it. My PCI/AGP lock is set to 33/66.

I've got it plugged into the "SATA1" port. Then there's the "SATA2" port and also two SATA ports for the onboard Promise SATA RAID controller, which I'm assuming I shouldn't use.....

This is really bothering me, and I'd really appreciate it if anyone here can help.

What are your temps?

Well, my temps are fine. Since I cleaned out my HSF of dust, I haven't hit 50 degrees C. I've tried all the voltages between 1.525 and 1.6. It's not a matter of lacking power either. I've got an Enermax rated at 430+ Watts and don't have much plugged in.

Bump.
Please, if anyone has any input, I could really use it.

There's nowhere for me to go from here without any help...
