Overclocking n00b's jump from 3.2 ~ 3.6

Ok i just overclocked my P4 3.2c to 3.6 with a 225FSB... uhh since im quite new to this overclocking business, after reading a few threads i just decided to increase the fsb and increase the voltage to 1.600v. I left all other settings like the PAT/GAT and ram timings as default.

My RAM is Geil Dual Channel Value (512x2) and my motherboard is the Abit IC7 and my HSF is the Zalman 7000a-cu. According to AbitEQ, the CPU temperature is about 45degrees at idle (idle as in i didn't run any programs for 10 mins). Is this a safe temperature? and should have i changes any other settings? such as agp voltage, those PAT/GAT things?

How can i check the stability of my system, and what benchmarks are best for measuring the performance increase (or decrease)?

Any advice/help/comments would be nice~
 
The real question is what is your temperature under full load - you can find this temperature by running prime95 for about 15 minutes. If you want to check for full system stability, you should be able to run prime95 for 6 to 24 hours without your system restarting or prime95 failing.

The Abit IC7 reports idle temps about 11C degrees higher than actual, and reports full load temps about 8C higher than actual. From the looks of it that means you are idleing at about 34C - which is fine.
 
hmm, did you need to increas the voltage? I'm running fine at 225 on some KVR DDR 400 and stock voltage.

i anticipate (quite) a few threads like this before people start actually noticing and subsequently reading the FAQ, so it is no problem.

wrt your questions:
the temperature is probably fine. what's load temp like?
the other settings can most likely be left alone. you can try turning on PAT/GAT for a performance boost (but probably at the cost of memory speed MHz-wise) though it may hurt stability.
agp voltage is best left alone.
prime95 for stability; sisoft sandra, game timedemos (at 640 so cpu is the limiting factor unless you have a 9000 like me) for performance measurement.
