Overclocking Mobility Radeon Stories

I have a laptop that has a Mobility Radeon 9600 in it, default clocks of 344mhz core, 236mhz memory, and I can get a rock stable OC of 450mhz core, 245mhz memory.

That is a huge OC on a mobility chip - at 450mhz core, a MR 9600 effectively becomes a MR 9700, which has a default clock of 450mhz I believe - and I was just wondering if it was unusual or pretty standard for those cards.

I guess it could have to do with laptop design, one of the three intake fans for my laptop sits right on top of the GPU, and in other laptops where you have passive cooled GPUs far away from moving air things could be quite different...
 
I overclocked my friends mobile 9600 and was wowed by how far it went. I got it well into the 400's before it started artifacting... the memory overclocks were less than stellar though.
 
u reallu should oc the mems to much, or at all. yeah m y standar 9800 oced damn well, by 100 mhz, but my x800 can barely do 50
 
I have overclocked my T42 Mobility Radeon 9600, from defaults of 320/210, to a stable overclock of 450/232. Artifacts are not detected, and I can play Quake3 for hours. To reduce total temperature, I have decreased the voltage of the Pentium M processor from 1.34v to 1.034v. I believe the heatsink/fan assembly is common to the CPU and GPU.

Can the memory timings be favorably adjusted for a higher memory overclock?

I have the 2378 FVU, and run Catalyst 5.7, and play Quake3 at 1400x1050 with 2x TAA.
