Overclocking mobile chips???

I saw a quote on a member named konchev's sig saying that overclocking a mobile chip is not a good idea because they were designed to underclock depending on cpu utilization. Or something like that.

Is this true, and if so has anyone had a mobile xp die on them recently???? Just wanted to get a general idea of how everyone's oc'd like a mutha xp-m's are doing.

Nonsense, my mobile has been good to me, except for the fact i can't get it to overclock past 2.5 which isnt bad at all :).(just my experience)
 
mobile toys run at lower voltages and also do run at higher clocks. it's been proven by so many overclockers.... including..... me. :D

my chip is sh#t though. it's not a golden chip and managed to clock it upto 2,956mhz@ 237FSB, using supercooling. nope... i don't use Mach/vapo cooling.

IIRC, the highest i did get to with the thoroughbred xp1700 was 2,900mhz. Nicely benchable and run games@ 2,856mhz@ 248 FSB. superPi time of 35 sec.

i did 34 sec. with the barty though.

if I had one of those "good" m-bartons and an Abit NF7/s board, 3,100mhz+ would've been very feasible.

my current board is DFI NF2 LP b.
 
My 2500+ has been just fine running at 2.65 GHz@2V.

kronchev's just sore cause he had bad luck with a couple 2400+ chips... :p

Only difference is that the 35w runs at lower voltage at stock speeds, but once you get to overclocking, I think its about the same, guy I know got one, didn't get over 2.5, but then I hear another story about someone getting 2.7 all on air cooling, all the mobiles are just the luck of the draw.
 
The mobiles support PowerNow!, which is AMD's solution to overheating in laptops. If the temperature gets too high, the CPU will underclock itself down as far as 800MHz to fight the heat.

HOWEVER, this feature is only built into laptop mainboards. No desktop mainboard that I am aware of supports PowerNow!

So overclock my friend, there is no need to worry.

Thats some nice stuff there? So you are running youra 2.8+

SuperPi seem a bit slow. mine run 35 secounds, @ 2.63, seems you would be in the 33-34s
 
I'm only @ 1.725 vcc with my chip, and it's been running great. I'm not a risky guy, and I'm too lazy to keep clearing my cmos, lol :).
