Overclocking memory/fsb

I had some questions regarding memory/overclocking.

Okay I had some previous corsair value select ram from another system 2x512. After I upgraded I bought another gig of corsair value since It was on sale at newegg which gives me 4x512 sticks of ram= 2 gig.

These sticks are labeled Corsair PC3200 DDR400, which I'm assuming the motherboard should run them at 400mhz memory speed.

Now I have a Dfi Ultra-D board with a a64 3000+ Venice chip.
The bios is updated to the newest one available. Since I heard this board has problems with corsair memory.

Now my understanding is that my current memory should run at 1:1 which 200mhz and the fsb at 200fsb which would give 400mhz memory speed. If I set the board to auto it defaults to 333mhz DDR speed. I have to manually change the ddr speed to 1:1, in order to get 400ddr speed.

Okay that works perfectly fine with the fsb at 200 and the memory at 200. I didn't mess with the other settings the timings, since I'm unsure which to mess with. Now say if I increase the fsb to 210 that seems to be working fine since I'm typing with that set now.
Anything around 220 isn't stable at all.

If I drop the memory to auto or 166mhz which gives me 333ddr speed. I'm able to up the FSB to 250 which is very stable for me. The multiplier is at the highest available which is 9x
I know my memory wasn't intended for overclocking though, I just bought it because it was cheap,realiable and I needed some more memory.

The real question I have is regards to performance.
Is it better to run the memory at 400ddr with a lower fsb opposed to running memory at a lower speed in my case 333ddr and a higher fsb which results in high clock speed.

I don't plan too buy any of that overclocking memory though,I just wanted to ask some questions I was wondering about.
Other then these questions this system is pretty damn fast and games are nice too.
