Before I list specs, yes I know my system is outdated but it suits my every need. Now, my specs are as followed: G31MXK with 2.0 Bios, Q6600 with G0 stepping, Team Elite 2x2gb DDR2 800mhz, 700W PSU, GTX560ti 448. Now my issue is that I am able to overclock to 3.08ghz with multiplier 343x9 and at 1371fsb speed. Any higher than that multplier and the computer fails to boot, resets, and resets to default speeds. If I try to use Fox One software to overclock, the computer freezes over 343 multplier. What am I doing wrong? My thoughts were that even though I have the "G31mxk 2.0" bios version (which is rated at 1600fsb overclocked), that my motherboard still cant detect any more than 1333fsb speed. Any thoughts? Thanks a bunch.
 
stock heatsink ? could be heat.
or could be the ram being oc'd ? got access to the ram multipliers ? ram voltage ?
if you got the vcore to auto ? then your mobo could be setting the vcore way higher than it needs and it'll overheat.
 
I have a CNPS9500 so it couldnt be heat, doesnt get over 40c under load. The ram voltage I dont think can be changed, but the ram i lowered to 533mhz and the timings are like 4-4-4-15. Ive upped the vcore of the cpu to like 1.5v and still does the same thing.
 
Yeah thats a big heatsink.
Maybe try running looser timings on the ram. 5-5-5-18.
I'd think your ram would be the weakest link.
 
I could do 5-5-5 but 15 is the highest itll go. Otherwise, what would be the culprit?
 
well for starter on this guide for ocing c2q www.tomshardware.com/forum/259899-29-core-overclocking-guide the guy was able to achieve 3000mhz with only 1.232 v on the core.... with vdroop usualy thats higher in windows.
More heat on the core and mobo than u need isn't optimal. So i wouldn't put it at 1.5v
I see other q6600 get 200-400 mhz but not more(over 3000).

If it's not your cpu stoping u, you'd need to adjust the voltage for your northbridge.

Also i'd make sure the memory voltage isn't on auto but your recommanded ram voltage. Unless you plan on ocing it then disregard.

Remember that when you oc and reach the max to back off 5% of the max. If you run it full time just to be safe.
