Overclocking + ATI - Pro or XT ????

I am going with an ATI card for a few reasons. One reason being the Reduce DVI Frequency option only ATI has that vastly improves the image quality on my Dell 2001fp (gets rid of "screendoor" effect). I am going to be overclocking whichever card I get to the max I can stable, on air. However, I cannot decifer from these forums which brand or card has turned out the OC the best. For nvidia it is the Gainward or BFG GT. But what about ATI? I read that one of the ATI x800 pro's can be turned into an XT-PE. But can any of the XT's (not PE) or pro's be pushed beyond this point? So, for overclocking, XT or Pro????? Help a man out !
 
Generally it's safer to try an XT rather than a Pro. Although the rare Pros are the ones that go far past 600 on the right cooling. With a $400/$500 purchase, I'd rather be safe than sorry with an XT.

If you flash it, you need a VIVO, it enables the extra 4 pipelines and then you can OC it as far as you can, just like any other card.
 
I was looking at getting the Vivo, based on the flashing exploit. However, I did not know if I could take a flashed ViVo pro faster than a regular OC'd XT. Any clues? They are fairly close in price... ~$50 I think.

Besides that, can any of you Nvidia users confirm the lack of the DVI frequency option on the 6800's? Would be great to know for sure. Thanks!
 
It's all luck of the draw. I'm on a Pro that's at 570 / 590 with no problems, others can't get past 500. Luck is all you have to go by.
 
Get the X800XT, you will have the peace of mind knowing your card has 16 pipelines at 500/500. From there you likely can o/c it to XT PE levels.
 
K, I wasnt really sure how "luck" related it was with the ATI Pro's to reach the XT-PE lvls. Guess from what you all are saying it is very luck reliant. Definately sounds like the XT is the way to go to mostly guarantee a good OC.
 
What type of speeds should I "expect" to get out of an XT btw?

Anyone look and see if Nvidia has the option to adjust DVI frequency yet??

Shouldn't have a problem reaching XT PE speeds or close.
