Has anyone been able to overclock their 5800 series cards and successfully maintain the card's ability to switch clock modes for power savings?

When using AMD Clock utility or whatever its called, it will no longer downclock. In other words, the card is always stuck at 1000mhz when I overclock it. Also, the clock speeds won't be maintained when the computer is rebooted.

Is there something I am doing wrong or is this a limitation of the card and/or software?

Use a program other than AMD Click Utility. MSI Afterburner or Overdrive will OC and keep the 2D speed to stock settings. The AMD Clock Utility uses an "unofficial" overclocking method that bypasses all of AMD's power settings.

Last version of MSI Afterburner I used would not go back to 2D. I had to make a hotkey to do it myself, but kept forgetting. So I reverted back to Overdrive in the CCC as I can get 900/1300, and 2D automation vs 950/1350, no 2D automation.

Might be fixed now, but I have not bothered to check.
