Alright before anyone starts on about, why in heaven's sake would I be overclocking a laptop, I want to say it's just a fun project. I've a laptop lying around doing nothing for the past two years or so. What the hell else am I going to do with it aside from throw it out? The damn thing is five years old, running on an AMD Sempron single core 3000+ processor which I believe is rated at 1.8 ghz. Its got 256 mb ram and since I am stupid I spent 40 bucks on upping it's ram to 1 gig plus that 256mb stock. I put win 7 on it. Now, I want to know how to overclock a laptop and if there are coolers for it. If there are coolers any suggestions would be nice, I don't mind spending another 40 bucks or so but thats the limit. Its simply not worth spending any more for a fun project. It'll probably end up being useless anyway but no harm in trying.

So how do I overclock this thing and do I need aftermarket coolers or something and if so what kind?

Thanks for any suggestions. Please don't tell me to stop wasting my time. I happen to like learning things first hand.

I havent physically overclocked a laptop since the Pentium 200MMX days.

The laptop had dipswitches that would allow 166/200 or 233Mhz. That was 10 years ago.

Since then I cant remember a laptop that had the physical ability in either hardware or BIOS.

So yes you are wasting your time probably.

Have a look on Ebay and see if you can install a better CPU in it. Thats all you can do really. A 2Ghz or more should be dirt cheap.

Overclocking a laptop? No go, they have horrible thermal displacement. If your rocking an older laptop, which you are. Your gonna crate a lap fire very quickly. My suggestion is since your already determined to first get a laptop cooler, then proceed. If its a major branded laptop tho, u might not find OC settings in the bios
