Overclocking 3500+ Qs, eBay, Freezing .. .

I have been playing around with overclocking my Athlon 3500+ Venice lately. I have a few concerns and problems:

1)I have to use a Ram divider to overclock as for some reason my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (or the RAM which is this stuff: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81868) will not let me boot past the motherboard screen if I overclock it even 1mhz over its 200mhz stock rating. However in Clockgen, I can get reasonable overclocks on my RAM, (e.g 230mhz at stock timings). Is there an easy workaround or reason for this problem?

2)My system has this weird problem in which it can't fail a torture test or benchmark in any way. Instead it just freezes. If I'm running a Prime95 and upping my FSB 1mhz every 30s Prime will never throw an error before everything freezes. Ditto with SuperPi and OCCT. Is this normal? (my PSU is an Antec Smartpower II 500W (its def. overkill, my GPU is a measly 6200TC and ive only got 1 hd and dvd-rw). I am slightly worried about my rails, which are all about .2v of, but that is with software, not with a multimeter. I might try and get a multimeter to do this with, but is it a likely cause of my freezing? ( I have put PCI + PCI-E locks on, my HTT freq. does not get above 1000 e.t.c.) Here is a screenshot (this was just about stable i think:

3)So far anything above 2.6ghz at 1.5v freezes my computer in benchmarks, so I was thinking of raising my vcore to 1.55v. At 1.5v my idle is 32C and my load is around 46C, this is quite high to move up more vcore isn't it? I am mainly asking this because in about 2-6 months I intend to upgrade my system to probably AM2 or Conroe. I would probably sell the parts on eBay but am worried about overclocking before selling. Will 1.55v mean I have to say the processer will have a much shorter life, can running 1.55v for 2-6 months run the small chance of frying my cpu? I am using a Cooler Master heatsink, that I imagine may be slightly better than stock but not by much. Has anyone sold many overclocked parts on eBay? How do they describe them? What voltage should I run?

Thanks for any advice with any of this.

No one? Ok Illl simplify it:

1)Why can't I boot past the Asus MB screen when I overclock my Ram even 1mhz in the bios? (I can overclock it loads in Clockgen.)
2)Why might my system only ever freeze or BSOD instead of failing benchmarks?
3)How safe is going to 1.55v for the next few months?
4)Should I run 1.5v or something if Im planning to sell on eBay? How well do overclocked parts sell on eBay?

(I cant seem to make the screenshot bigger.)

what are your temps? I had a similar prob with my 3500 newcastle at stock voltages. I bumped it up to 1.525 and it was able to boot but failed prime miserably. I wasnt able to get my system stable untill I cranked my voltages to 1.6 and took my cp from 2.2 to 2.4 and I ran prime for 12 hours with no probs but my temps were hitting 59-61c so i played with it then backed off to default setting thinking of watercooling b4 i play again I would love to get this hog to 2.6 but I'm weighinh my cost=possible ceiling of my cp but read the sticky see what you cp voltage and max heat is then u will know your limits then just play with it a little.

I got my 3500+ @2.915@1.48v going to try 3ghz when I replace my Big Typhhon fan.

I have the exact same problem with the specs in my sig, only worse.

It gets to about 2.35GHz and just locks regardless of voltages etc. No prime errors, nothing. My temperatures are fine, tried 3 different (Good!) PSUs, different ram, etc. Nothing helps.

I gave up at this point..

Great, that helped our problems alot.

Thats weird. What mobo you using? My 3700+ is clock to 2.65 on stock voltages. Runs prime stable for 24 hours. I'm using the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2

hmm,

Well I reset my cmos, and re-overclocked and for some reason my cant-boot-with-ram-overclocked-at-all problem was solved.

I went to 1.52v with my vcore.

Also, I got a prime error at 2.655ghz :D
It froze again after a while when testing in OCCT, but eventually I got this which seems stable so far:

2uantuM, it might be worse resetting the cmos, I doubt it will help, but I did get my first benchmark error afterwards, although it was probably coincedence.

One more thing: I see some people's overclocks use a mulitplier lower than the max multiplier of the cpu. (e.g. 270x10 rather than 245x11). Does this help with anything?

EDIT: Oops, forgot to say my Temps,At 1.52v, its 36C stable and was 51C load, but we had a really hot day today so that might have pushed them up a bit.

Yes. A higher FSB will run faster than a lower FSB. Therefore, dropping the multiplier and rasing the FSB will be faster than a higher multiplier at a lower FSB if it all runs at the same frequency.

I run mine at the 11x multiplier and 240 FSB. It runs fine for me. I don't need the extra boost for any games or anything at this point especailly since my video card itsn't up to par.

ok thanks for the info.

I changed to 293x9, which is fine and stable and everything, but my superpi time or anything else hasnt really dropped.

Where will I notice the difference in performance?
